Samsung has been working on satellite connectivity for Google Pixel devices over the past year, and it appears that it will finally come to fruition. According to emerging claims, the company, which has so far preferred Tensor processors in its phones and Pixel tablets, may switch to using Exynos modems for satellite connectivity in its new series to be announced this year. Here are the details of Google Pixel devices with Samsung Exynos modem-powered Tensor processors…
Pixel 9, Pixel Fold 2, Pixel Tablet 2 to feature Exynos modem-powered Tensor processor
Starting from the Pixel 6 series, Google has been using Tensor processors with Exynos modems manufactured by Samsung. It is claimed that the technology giant will integrate the satellite connectivity announced with the new Exynos processor into its upcoming devices: Pixel 9, Pixel Fold 2, and Pixel Tablet 2 models to be introduced this year.
Especially for messaging, satellite connectivity can be a direct solution for emergency situations. According to recent reports, the more efficient and faster Exynos 5400 5G modem, compared to the Exynos 5300 used in the Pixel 8 and Pixel Fold series, will be used in upcoming models. The modem, which supports 5G for satellite-connected communication in emergencies and features 3GPP Rel. 17 support, seems poised to enhance security in the new Pixel series.
Google’s first tablet, the Pixel Tablet, was initially offered only with Wi-Fi connectivity. The upcoming Pixel Tablet 2 with the codename “Clementine” is expected to be available in both Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi + 5G connectivity options.
Google’s aim to facilitate access to emergency services through a dedicated app called ‘Satellite Gateway’ is an innovative step. With new features and the Exynos modem-equipped Tensor processor, Google Pixel devices are poised to become even more advanced.
